Hi everybody , I am Jean Michel , your driver guide, welcome to Carcassonne,
You can rest assured that my Partners and I will do all that we can to look after your needs and take good care of you during your stay here, and that it will be my great pleasure to make you discover some of the most amazing highlights and wines of my region. But before that I just want to introduce myself briefly.
I am a 57 years young man, and I’ve been married for 36 years (thus to a holy woman ..) and I have three beautiful daughters, Lauren (28) , Clara (23) and Lucile (18)
My life course is quiet atypical .. I had several jobs and professional experiences in my lifetime such as professional musician*, independant retailer, restaurant owner** , tour leader in Norway (not to mention all the other ones in my youth….) During all those years of interesting & various work I was mostly self-taught. However in 2009 & 2010 I decided to undergo several vocational trainings, in the tourism and wine tourism. Afterwads, as planned, I started my own tourism business, running Castles & wine tours in Occitanie, this fabulous and enchanting part of the world that I know so well, for both my pleasure and the pleasure of my guests from all over the world, attracted by a region offering such a variety of culture, heritage, nature and leisure activities .
With me you will learn more about the famous 13th century Crusade against the Cathars or “Albigensians” , about their religion and these amazing “perfect men”, the cathar priests who called themselves ” good christians, good men and good women”, who prefered to be burnt at the stake rather than disown their faith !! You’ ll also learn more about the Languedoc Roussillon wines, the numerous grappe varietes used here (up to 56 ) , the different wine making/aging processes that are usually used to make our local either red, white or rosés generous wines .
And of course you will learn how to taste their different vintages along with local olives or pastries, depending on the time of day and on the kind of wine, rather sparkling wine , still wine ,or sweet natural wine etc…
